Photos - 12/31

Busy, busy, busy. I thoroughly enjoy this photo and want to place it in the YLD scrapbook because it shows both Jim S. and Jon answering phones. Now that might not seem like a novelty to you but for Jim S it is! He worked at YLD for almost a year before he felt comfortable answering the phone. Even now he does it as little as possible. I wonder if he is phone phobic?

Summit, border collie, would really appreciate it if everyone stopped messing with the pea gravel. He places it all in the proper order and then - wham - dogs run through the play yard and all his work disintegrates in a rattle of rocks. Summit thoroughly enjoys herding the rocks back into formation. I think he'd be an awesome sheep minder.

Zeke, the yellow lab, and Ducky, the black lab and his sister, chill out during their new year's stay. These two have been pack members for about 8 months. They have very busy parents who work in the emergency medical fields so we get to enjoy their company. It is very sweet and loving company too!

This is Joe. We call him Joe Cocker (after the Joe Boxer clothing items) because he is part cocker spaniel. Joe likes to hang out with the smaller pack that plays on the top play yard. He prefers to stay away from larger dogs because he wants to be the big dog on campus. Joe is a recue dog. His mom has taken such good care of Joe. We always appreciate his visits. Joe also likes to visit the groomer to keep his beard trimmed nicely. We all think Joe's beard is the best in the building! It even beats Mike's goatee.

Apollo is ready for lift up to your arms. He is a lover and a sweetheart. Apollo is a chihuahua mix. He absolutely loves to play with Maggie Mae, Teddy S., Nick and any other small breed canine. He loves being with humans and receiving love and attention.

Chewy (AKA Chewbacca for those of you who know Star Wars) is a wonderful mix breed canine. He has a little sister, a puggle, named Ella. Jim S. started putting their names together and we now have Chewella. I tried to get a photo with Ella but no luck in that direction. She was off with another puggle doing puggle things like running, sniffing, digging and bouncing. Chewy is a good boy. He likes to stay with the smaller dogs most often 'cause then he gets to be the big brother to more than one dog. We always love to see Chewy and Ella coming in the door for a daycare visit.

Marley S. is female golden retriever. She is definitely more of the red golden than the light golden. She actually had a look alike the day this photo was taken. Her double is named Stella. The staff had a difficult time telling them apart! But everyone went home with the correct people. Marley is a spunky girl. She really enoys male golden retrievers and gives them a run for their money. She plays hard but also is good at taking breaks as seen in this photo. It is always important for dogs to learn to "time out" - give themselves a break from the play sessions.

Here we have a series of Lexie doodle photos. I know many of you have looked at the holiday photos and there were some great shots of a VERY dirty Lexie doodle. Well, here she is after being groomed by Kathy. Lexie had to get a short haircut because her hair was all matted. Keeping a dog (especially poodle mixes) de-matted is a time consuming daily ritual. Lexie seems to been enjoying the freedom of her new hair cut and was running around like a spinning top.

Here is Lexie with Bella. Lexie was being so exuberant that Bella felt the need to run to the corner to rest. Obviously, Lexie followed wanting to continue to play. Lexie loves to play

I really like her haircut. I think it looks beautiful! Thanks Kathy for being such a great groomer.

So folks, Happy New Year! It certainly came in with freezing, blustery winds. The dogs didn't appreciate all the wind yesterday. It kind of makes the group cranky. We survived and actually slept through the night into the new day. I hope and pray that many positive things with bless all of you this new year. See you soon!
Peace,
Wendy

Lexie IS so much happier now that she's groomed! We tried so hard to keep the mats at bay... but alas, the busy Christmas season got away with us and she paid the price!! thanks Kathy for the tip on the new de-matter too!
