Photos

Zeke. I had a photo yesterday of Zeke and his sister, Ducky, resting. Today Zeke was up and running around because Ducky was inside. She napped on her rear leg the wrong way and was having a bit of limping just after naptime. I think she had those tingling feelings we get when a body part "falls asleep." Anyway, Zeke does NOT like to be separated from Ducky. Here he is running around looking for her. Once Ducky's limp was over the two were reunited!
Old Man Jack always notifies us when the Angus Barn starts their grills. His nose goes up in the air and he wanders around sniffing as deeply as possible. It usually takes us humans a few more minutes before we can smell the enticing aroma of grilled meat. Sometimes I wonder if Jack would like to visit Angus Barn for a steak or two!
My eldest boy Baxter sitting next to his friend Sawyer. Sawyer had a long visit with us while her family went to Hawaii so she got to know Baxter really well. I think she likes him! I think they make a cute couple too!
This is a face only a mother and the staff at YLD could love unconditionally. It is Moose the star of the holiday poem Chris-Moose as composed by Jon and Jim S. (see November blog for complete poem). This photo of Moose will bring understanding and enlightenment to poem readers. A few wonderful facts about Moose - he is deaf, his mom inherited him from family who didn't know what to do with him, it has taken a LONG time to train him but his mom did it! She is an inspiration to us all of the persevence we must sometimes have to conquer difficulties with our canines!

My dog Lady is in the background wearing her red coat. Man, she really digs that jacket. She'll stand perfectly still when you show it to her and place it around her. Then, once it is secured, she prances around like a princess. In the middle of the photo is Winnie. She's been boarding since Wednesday morning so she's a bit pooped. This was taken during the start of the afternoon play session so she may just not have fully woken yet. In the foreground is our boar hunter Lucia. Lucia did not provide the staff with the holiday ham that we requested but we forgive her! Lucia is the only catahoula leopard dog (also known as the catahoula cur) that has continued to fit into the pack. They are usually extremely work oriented to herding or boar hunting. Luckily for us Lucia does neither and is actually a sweetheart. I'm very glad she is mixed with something more gentle.

What can I say about Nellie boxer except she LOVES everybody. Nellie would be happy spending her time "kissing" all the other dogs. In this photo she is licking Tyler L. who is handling the attention like a pro. Some of you may wonder why Nellie boxer behaves in the manner. Basically the dog doing the "kissing/licking" is assuring the other dog that they are submissive or lower in rant within the pack. Now Nellie comes several times a week while Tyler hasn't been to daycare in a couple weeks yet she still feels the need to assure him that he has more status than she does. Nellie is low on the totem pole of the pack so she assures other dogs throughout the day of that.

Kasey F.! What a wonderful male golden retriever. He's boarding right now because his parents went visiting to PA over the holidays. He is going to be three in mid-January so he is still in the goofy, young adult phase of his golden life. One of the things Kasey loves to do is run full tilt
along walls. He doesn't care what is in his way - he just plows through. He has an extremely strong skull and likes to rile the other dogs into running along the walls with him. I think he must laugh internally when other dogs join him in the fun and games!
