Photos - 1/9

I wrote earlier about Casey barking at her parents when she felt it was time to visit YLD. Well, here is Casey sharing her thoughts about daycare yesterday. She has this unique form of puffing out her lips as she barks that is too cute!

Hennah is a full blooded blue heeler. Her dad, Mike, is the YLD trainer. Mike has gone to Florida to visit a sick friend so Hennah is staying as a guest at YLD. Anyway, one of a blue heeler's jobs is to herd. As an adolescent, Hennah learned to herd sheep and actually won her junior herding championship. Herding dog breeds are very intelligent. Displaying this we have Hennah carrying the poop scooper. She learned this by watching the staff pick up poop. Those of you who share their lives with herders - remember they are SMART!

Talk about smart. This is Cammie the husky. She is smart also. Cammie is in the process of learning how to unlock her crate and unhook the gates of the outside play area. She hasn't succeeded so far but I'm sure she'll figure out the mechanics of the closures. Cammie is a sweetheart and really enjoys this colder weather we've been having recently. She is fairly new to the YLD pack (about 2 months) so she's settling well and has been fun to get to know her and her habits.

Here's Tucker. He is a Blenheim colored cavalier king Charles spaniel. He's a bit on the larger side of cavaliers so we think his stock was more European than the smaller American cavs. He loves to play with other cavaliers (like most) which was a wonderful trait yesterday because there were three other cavaliers - Charley, Carly & Violet. Charley and Carly are also Blenheim while Violet is a tri-color. They all had a great time!

In the foreground in Sally. She is a border collie mix of some sort. Sally's dad said they misspoke earlier in the week and said "daycare" to which Sally responded and kept demanding to visit YLD. She visits once a week and was traveling during the holidays so she didn't get her weekly fix. Here she is! Joyful to be back among the pack. To her left and behind you'll recognize Dr. Emma. She's visited each day this week (an unusual occurance) because her mom had to have construction work completed on the house. It doesn't look like Emma minds being with the pack.

I was glad to see this photo because we don't have many of these two guys. In the foreground in Jasper. Jasper was a regular visitor during his first two years. His parents lived in the local area and could get him to daycare regularly. They moved to the downtown area so we don't see Jasper as much. We've been lucky in that he's visited the past two weeks. Anyway, Jasper really like the young man next to him - Champ. The shepherd mixes mixing it up together! They had a great time hanging out together all day yesterday.

Here's a wonderful shot of Jon closing the gate between the bottom and top group. A bottom daycare dog was just called to go home so the staff move the dog from the bottom to the top and then inside to go home. You can see several dogs I have already spoken about. Going from far right corner to the left we have Miles' face, Charley, Abby Chow, Lila, Baxter and Slider (lab brothers), Piper (golden), Charlie, Darwin (black dogs), Jasper, Sally, Teddy (in the coat) and Bailey G in the front. They were a great pack yesterday!

Last, but not least, here is Julie. Yesterday was only her second afternoon working at YLD. She is replacing another teenager who moved on to bigger and better things. Anyway, you can see here she has her hand in the air. Well, just like dog training, we train the staff to request each dog to sit before being petted. Obviously Julie was requesting a dog to sit (although we miss which one). Good job Julie! Keep up the good work!

Well everyone have a great Friday. I'm going out to take some photos of today's pack. Enjoy the small moments today.

Peace,
Wendy
